The Three Rivers District Council has approved a £15.2 million budget for the 2026/27 financial year to protect local services in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire. During a meeting on 24 February 2026, officials also pledged an extra £1 million over the next two years to fund improvements and community projects across the area.
The new spending plan includes a dedicated project to improve Rickmansworth town centre. Residents have been told there will be no cuts to frontline services or staff redundancies, meaning bin collections and street cleaning rounds will continue as normal.
Instead of changing how often bins are collected, the council plans to use the extra money for cleaning up alleyways and footpaths. The funding will also support local volunteers who take part in community litter picks to keep the streets tidy.
Council Leader Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst OBE said the investment is being made now to ensure local needs are met before any potential changes to local government. He explained that if the council is merged with other authorities in Hertfordshire, local priorities for the town might be ignored.
By committing these funds now, the council aims to upgrade local parks and walkways while it still has the power to make its own financial decisions. The budget is designed to maintain high service standards while preparing the area for future changes.
