Time is running out for Rickmansworth residents to have their say on where new Beryl bike hire bays should be placed, with the consultation window slamming shut at midnight on 29 May. The scheme, which lets users hire pedal or e-bikes through an app, is set to expand into the town along with Leavesden and South Oxhey, backed by a £138,000 Community Infrastructure Levy bid and council cash for sustainable travel.

Five spots are on the table for Rickmansworth: Tudor Parade/Berry Lane, Harefield Road, High Street, the train station and Moneyhill Parade. The expansion was approved by councillors in October 2025 and will see 36 new e-bikes split across 13 bays in the three new areas, building on a pilot in Croxley Green that notched up 1,000 rides in just two months.

Leader of Three Rivers District Council, Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst OBE, said the aim was to give more people a reason to ditch their cars for short trips. Feedback can still be lodged via the council’s Have Your Say website before the clock strikes twelve, and all comments will be weighed before final locations are locked in.

The bays will plug into the existing network already running in Watford, Bushey and Croxley Green, so riders will be able to pedal across the wider district once the new racks go live. A public drop-in was held at Three Rivers House on 19 May to walk residents through the proposals and field questions.
