Bin collections across Rickmansworth will go ahead as normal this week, but the Three Rivers District Council has warned that crews may start their rounds earlier than usual to beat the extreme heat.

The council is asking households to have their refuse and recycling out the night before their scheduled collection or by 5am at the latest. “Due to the extreme weather we are experiencing, our refuse and recycling collections may be starting slightly earlier than usual,” a spokesperson said. “Please leave your bins out the night before or by 5am to assist our crews in completing their collection rounds.”

Similar measures were last taken during the August 2022 heatwave, when bins were collected ahead of the normal timetable from Wednesday 10 August through to Friday 12 August to protect crews from the highest temperatures. At that time the council said it would catch up any missed streets once the weather cooled, though it always aimed to complete every round as planned. Every household in the district receives a black recycling bin, a green non-recyclables bin and a silver food bin, while a brown garden waste bin is available for an annual subscription fee.

The council’s website also points residents towards Hertfordshire County Council’s hot-weather safety guidance, offering practical advice on staying safe during the warm spell. Collection day details for each property are listed on the council’s online lookup tool, and residents can sign up for email reminders to receive the latest updates.
