The Covent Garden Surface Car Park in Royal Leamington Spa has fully reopened to the public following the completion of works to bring the lower tiers of the former multi-storey structure back into use. Announced by Warwick District Council on 14 April 2026, the move provides a significant boost to town centre parking availability.

The facility is now open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and features 89 regular parking spaces along with 8 disabled bays. This total of 97 spaces represents an increase of 15 bays compared to the capacity available before the partial closure. The area had been reduced to just 32 spaces in August 2025 to allow for demolition and redevelopment work on the adjacent site.

The original multi-storey car park on Russell Street was permanently closed on 12 February 2023 due to ongoing structural deterioration and concerns regarding anti-social behaviour. Since then, the site has undergone a phased transformation led by the council in partnership with the Leamington Transformation Board. As part of these broader regeneration efforts, the pedestrian bridge that previously connected the site to The Parade has been removed.

Drivers can expect further improvements later this year, with a new two-level car park on the former multi-storey site currently under construction. This facility is expected to open in early summer 2026 and will provide secure long-stay parking for up to 100 vehicles.

The project is part of a wider programme aimed at renewing the town centre, with the site’s future use currently planned to include surface and underground parking, and potential space for a wellbeing centre.
