An emergency bleed-control cabinet is set to be installed outside Leamington Spa Town Hall, Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, to give members of the public access to equipment for treating life-threatening bleeding.
The bright red, wall-mounted unit will be placed on the corner of Livery Street and The Parade, the council says. Warwick District Council announced the move to improve public safety in the town’s busiest pedestrian area. The weather‑proof cabinet is expected to contain items used to control catastrophic bleeding, such as dressings, gauze and tourniquets.
Local reporting and the council link the installation to the introduction of new national safety requirements under Martyn’s Law. Councillor Jim Sinnott, Portfolio Holder for Safer, Healthier and Active Communities, said: “We work closely with partners and agencies to focus on the safety of our visitors and residents, and I’m pleased to see we continue to improve our safety precautions. Whilst we hope there won’t be any occasions where this kit is required, it’s reassuring for our residents to know they are there.”
BBC News and other outlets say similar bleed kits have been rolled out elsewhere in the region in recent years to give bystanders resources in the critical minutes before emergency services arrive. In an emergency, callers to 999 can be given an access code and guidance from the ambulance service on how to open the cabinet and use the supplies to help a casualty.
