Residents in Sittingbourne, Kent, can now take part in free, coach‑led outdoor fitness sessions and use new exercise facilities at Beachfields in Sheerness as part of the £20 million Sheerness Revival project. Swale Borough Council launched the coach‑led classes on 29 January 2026 to help people get active without having to pay for a gym membership.

The programme includes family boot camps and fitness sessions specifically for older residents (marketed as ‘Silver Fitness’), supported by guided use of the new outdoor gym. These activities form part of the wider Sheerness Revival project and have been delivered in partnership with Alliance Leisure, the council’s leisure development partner responsible for the design and delivery of the Beachfields elements.

People travelling from Sittingbourne can reach Beachfields via a direct train or a short drive; recent Active Travel pathway improvements make it easier to walk from Sheerness station to the seafront and the site. The project is funded by a £20 million UK Government Levelling Up Fund grant and also features the recently opened EKC Sheppey College extension (January 2026) and an 18‑hole heritage‑themed adventure golf course (opened July 2025).

Cllr Monique Bonney, chair of the Economy and Property Committee at Swale Borough Council, said the project aims to tackle health issues and boost the local area by providing more education and leisure options. While the main indoor leisure centre remains under refurbishment with a planned reopening in April 2026, the outdoor sessions and outdoor gym are available for residents to use immediately.
