Slough Borough Council has officially opened 10 newly renovated flats at Garrick House in Langley, Berkshire, turning a former eyesore into modern homes for local families. The building on Humber Way had been empty since 2024 after falling into disrepair and being targeted by vandals.
The project has increased the number of homes at the site from nine to 10. The new layout includes four one-bedroom flats, four two-bedroom flats, and two three-bedroom flats, with one home specifically designed for wheelchair users.
To help the environment, the council installed solar panels to provide power to each flat and a shared heat pump system to keep the building warm. A new car park was also built at the back of the property which includes charging points for electric cars.
Councillor Dexter Smith and Councillor Robert Stedmond attended an official opening ceremony on 25 February 2026 to welcome the first residents. The final group of tenants is expected to sign their agreements and move into the building by 27 February 2026.
According to Slough Alert, the new residents will bring more activity to the street. Community volunteers are being encouraged to welcome the new neighbours and provide them with information on local safety and support services.
