Slough Borough Council in Berkshire has launched a public consultation on proposed updates to its housing waiting list rules to decide who gets priority for local homes. The eight-week review, which began on 10 March 2026, is the first major update to the system since 2018 and could change who is eligible for social housing in the town.
Slough Borough Council is proposing new limits for applicants, including a maximum household income of £39,059 per year. People with more than £16,000 in savings or assets would also be disqualified from the register under the new plans to ensure housing goes to those with the greatest need.
Other changes include making it easier for veterans to find a home by removing the current five-year limit for them to join the register. These updates are part of wider efforts by the council to improve how local services are managed while it is under government oversight.
Local families and people currently on the waiting list are encouraged to share their thoughts through an online survey on the council website before the deadline on 4 May 2026. The feedback will be used to create a final report for the council cabinet to consider in June 2026.
