Residents of all ages gathered in Slough, Berkshire, this week to support the town’s bid to become the UK Town of Culture 2028 before the official application deadline on 31 March 2026.

A group made up of local leaders from businesses, schools, and the arts is managing the bid for the title. The Slough Council for Voluntary Service is part of this team working to bring the national recognition to the town.

If the town is successful in the competition run by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, it will receive £3 million in government funding. This money would be used to pay for a six-month cultural programme throughout 2028 to help improve the local area and community pride.

Local organisations have also voiced their backing for the bid, including Slough Town FC. Organisers hope that winning the title will help change national perceptions of the town and celebrate its local history.

The recent rally, featured people carrying placards and encouraging others to show their support online. The final documents for the bid must be submitted by the end of this month to be considered for the prize.
