Residents aged over 50 in Southampton, Hampshire, can now join a new free weekly social group designed to help people meet others and stay active. Mountbatten Hampshire and Age Concern Hampshire launched the service in March 2026 to help reduce loneliness in the local community.
The sessions take place every Thursday from 11am until 1pm at the Frances Sheldon Centre on Botley Road in West End. These meetups provide a space for residents to have a coffee and a chat while taking part in gentle movement and physical activity.
Jemma Saunders, the wellbeing coordinator at Age Concern Hampshire, said the sessions give older people a welcoming space to meet others and grow in confidence. The group is open to any local resident over the age of 50, including those who are carers or people currently receiving medical treatment.
Becky McGregor, the chief executive of Mountbatten Hampshire, said she was thrilled to be hosting the new social group and providing residents with an opportunity to meet together in a welcoming environment. The organisers added that partnership working and continued support from funders are vital to ensuring these activities remain free for everyone to attend.
