Southampton Central station has opened a new bike hut with 140 spaces this February 2026 to help more people cycle to their trains in Southampton, Hampshire. The project is a joint effort between South Western Railway and Southampton City Council to make it easier for residents to get around without using a car.

The new cycle hut is located just outside the entrance to Platform 1 and features two-tier racks that are under cover. This addition brings the total number of bike parking spots at the station to 392, which includes spaces on the platforms and in other areas around the site.

This work is part of a larger 5.5 million pound station revamp funded by the railway company and the government through a regional transport fund. According to Connecting Southampton, the goal is to turn the station into a hub where people can easily switch between buses, bikes, and trains.

The extra bike spaces arrive just after car parking prices at the station went up on 1 February 2026. While the new hut offers more room for cyclists, official station information notes that there is only partial CCTV coverage in the bike storage areas.
