Two food bank collection sites in Southampton will be closed during the upcoming Easter bank holiday weekend, affecting residents who rely on these services for emergency food parcels.
The Southampton City Mission has announced that its Above Bar Church venue at 69 Above Bar Street will be closed on Monday 6 April, and the Lord’s Hill Church venue in the Lordshill District Centre will be closed on Friday 3 April. These closures coincide with the Easter break, which includes Good Friday on 3 April and Easter Monday on 6 April 2026.
The charity operates the Basics Bank project, which has provided emergency food and clothing across the city since 1996. Residents who typically collect their food parcels on these days are encouraged to attend one of the other open venues between Tuesday and Thursday that week. Alternatively, the charity allows clients to arrange for a friend, relative, or support worker to collect parcels on their behalf.
The Basics Bank network relies on a system of approximately 1,500 referral agents, including NHS services and local charities, to issue electronic vouchers to those in need. Each parcel is designed to provide enough food for four days, containing a mix of tinned goods, packets, jars, bread, and available fresh produce. All other collection venues across the city will continue to operate as usual during the holiday period.
