Southampton is set to host a major celebration of Mexican culture as the Tacover Taco & Tequila Festival arrives at St Mary’s Stadium this weekend. The event, which takes place today, Saturday 2 May and Sunday 3 May 2026, marks the first time the festival has visited the city.

Known as Europe’s biggest taco and tequila festival, the event features up to 20 Mexican-owned and Mexican-inspired food traders. Visitors can sample offerings from various vendors, including Proper Tacos, Tacos MX, Hungry Taco, Taco Bros, and Polanco. Organisers have capped the price of tacos at £4 each, with traders required to offer a minimum of three tacos, including at least one vegan option. Signature cocktails available at the festival are also capped at £10.

Founder Alexander Freitas brings the festival to Southampton following six sold-out events held in other parts of the country over the last three years. Beyond food and drink, the festival schedule includes entertainment such as mariachi bands, roaming luchadores, and Mexican folk dancers. Attendees can also participate in competitive food challenges, including the Tortilla Slap Challenge and the Hot Taco Challenge.

The festival is part of a busy weekend for the city, as it leads directly into the ABP Southampton Marathon Festival, which is taking place on Sunday 3 May 2026. Runners and spectators for the marathon will see the race route pass through the grounds of St Mary’s Stadium, which is widely cited as the largest football stadium in South East England.

Further details regarding the event can be found through Visit Southampton, while tickets are available via the festival’s booking partner, DesignMyNight.
