Community groups and charities in Southend-on-Sea have a series of upcoming funding deadlines this month, as local organisations face growing pressure to secure resources for their services. The Southend Association of Voluntary Services, which has supported local groups for over 30 years, is highlighting several opportunities for organisations to access financial support.
The deadline for the Veterans’ Foundation Major Grants programme is 20 April 2026. This fund offers between £200,000 and £500,000 for partnership projects that benefit the armed forces community. Following this, the Souter Charitable Trust has a submission deadline of 27 April 2026 for charities working with vulnerable populations. Additionally, the ASDA Foundation Local Community Spaces Fund, which provides grants between £10,000 and £20,000, closes its application window on 28 April 2026.
Jamie Langstone, sector and partnership manager at the association, noted that voluntary organisations are currently operating under significant pressure due to rising demand for services and increased competition for limited funding. To help address these challenges, the organisation continues to support the Community Investment Board, a resident-led panel that has distributed over £2.2 million to 243 local projects since 2021.
Further funding opportunities are available, including the Arts Council England Supporting Grassroots Music Fund, which offers grants of up to £40,000 and operates on a rolling monthly deadline basis.
To assist local groups with these and other applications, the MP for Southend East and Rochford, Bayo Alaba, is partnering with the association to host a Community Funding Fair. The event will take place on 5 June 2026 from 1pm to 3pm at Bellevue Baptist Church in Southend.
