Families in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, can take part in a budget-friendly pancake workshop at a local diner during the February half-term break. The Grumpy’s Pancake Creation event runs from February 16 to February 20, 2026, giving children a chance to build their own food stacks.

For £5.50 per child, participants receive pancakes and various toppings to create a custom stack along with a juice drink. The workshop is strictly for those who book in advance, with two time slots available each day at the diner on Southchurch Road.

The activity is timed to include Shrove Tuesday on February 17, 2026. Owners Kerry Malone and Head Chef Sonny Malone run the family business, which is known for its 1950s American theme and regular children’s activities.

This event is part of a wider effort by Visit Southend to encourage people to visit local shops and cafes during the winter months. According to the Southend-on-Sea City Council, the tourism industry supports around 9,500 jobs in the community.
