Football supporters travelling to the Norwich City versus Ipswich Town match at Carrow Road this Saturday, 11 April 2026, are being urged to plan their journeys carefully due to significant rail disruption. With a 12:30 BST kick-off, Greater Anglia has issued travel advice warning that services will be busier than usual and that fans should allow extra time for their travel.

The travel challenges are primarily due to Network Rail carrying out essential engineering works, which mean there will be no direct train services running between Ipswich and Norwich on the day. Rail replacement buses will be in operation, but the company has confirmed these services have very limited capacity and are not intended to accommodate the high demand expected from matchgoers.

Compounding the situation, an overtime ban by the train drivers’ union is also in effect on Saturday, further reducing the number of available services. In response to these disruptions, Ipswich Town Football Club has arranged four alternative travel options for supporters, including discounted club coaches departing from Portman Road, a park-and-ride shuttle service, driving, or travel by train from other parts of the country.

Because of safety considerations raised by Norfolk Police, match tickets will not be posted to supporters and will not be available for collection at Carrow Road. Instead, fans must collect their tickets when boarding coaches or at designated collection points. Police expect approximately 2,020 away fans to attend the fixture and have implemented a specific routing plan, which will see supporters directed from the railway station via a side entrance onto Lower Clarence Road and along Clarence Road to reach the stadium safely.

Ipswich Town chairman Mark Ashton acknowledged that the lack of train services created challenges outside of the club’s control, but expressed satisfaction that a practical and affordable outcome for travelling supporters was reached after weeks of dialogue. The rail line between Ipswich and Norwich will also be closed during the following weekend, 18 and 19 April, as well as on 12 April, as part of the ongoing infrastructure improvement programme.
