Families in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, can now take part in a new fairy-tale themed adventure called FairyTrail-on-Sea, which runs from February 2 until March 7, 2026. Organized by Visit Southend, the trail offers a low-cost outdoor activity for parents and children during the February half-term and early spring weekends.
To take part, visitors can buy a trail map for £1 at local spots like the Southend Pier & Railway, Beecroft Art Gallery, or Central Museum. Participants must visit eight different locations across the city to collect stickers and complete their maps. According to the Southend-on-Sea City Council, the activity is designed to encourage residents to explore the seafront and support local businesses during the quieter spring season.
The event also includes a digital mobile game called Library Quest which families can play while visiting Southend Libraries. This virtual game allows users to collect digital stickers on their phones as they visit different library branches. It provides another way for children to stay active during the school holiday, which runs from February 16 to February 20.
The trail is timed to end on the same day as the second annual Southend City Day on Saturday, March 7, 2026. This community celebration marks the anniversary of the town receiving city status. Organizers hope to build on the success of the first event in 2025, which saw 65,000 people visit the city centre.
