Residents in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, have the chance to take part in the official launch of the city’s new Monopoly board game this spring. The Southend-on-Sea City Council is looking for a local person to join the game’s famous mascot on stage at the Palace Theatre on March 19, 2026.
To enter, residents must submit a creative response explaining why they love their city before the deadline at 11:59 pm on February 28, 2026. The game developers at Winning Moves UK will help choose the winner who will be the guest of honour at the official unveiling.
Southend-on-Sea won the opportunity to have its own bespoke board game after beating 19 other seaside towns in a national competition. The new version of the game will feature local landmarks and two local charities that were chosen to have their own permanent squares on the board.
The game is expected to be available for purchase in local shops and online in time for Easter on April 5, 2026. This new edition is the first bespoke city version to be released since the town received its official city status.
