Residents in Shoeburyness, Essex, are being invited to join a new board that will decide how to spend £20 million on local improvements over the next decade. The Southend-on-Sea City Council and local Member of Parliament Bayo Alaba are currently recruiting people to lead this project.
The funding is part of a national government scheme called Pride in Place, which aims to improve areas by focusing on things like transport, safety, and community buildings. The new group will manage about £2 million every year for 10 years to help make the ward a better place to live and work.
People who live or own businesses in the area can apply to join the Pride in Shoeburyness Neighbourhood Board. Applications for the position of independent chair close on March 23, 2026, while other board member applications must be submitted by April 6, 2026.
Public meetings are being held at Hinguar Primary School on February 13 and February 14, 2026, to allow residents to share their thoughts and learn more. Bayo Alaba MP said the move is about putting power back into the hands of the local people so they can choose which projects matter most to the community.
Once the board is formed, it will create a long-term plan that will be sent to the government for final approval. The improvements could lead to changes in local parking, new walking routes, and upgrades to bus services and housing in the area.
