Residents in Stockport, Greater Manchester, can get free one-to-one help with computers, smartphones, and online forms at a drop-in session at Bredbury Library on February 23, 2026. The session begins at 11:00 am and is designed to assist people who struggle with technology to apply for jobs, use email, or access benefits without needing to book an appointment.

The support is provided through the DigiKnow Alliance, which is a group of local organisations and volunteers managed by the council. All libraries in the borough offer free access to computers and Wi-Fi to ensure that everyone can use essential internet services.

This initiative is part of a larger plan to help the community use technology following the opening of Stockroom, a £14.5 million library hub that launched in May 2025. Along with face-to-face help, the programme includes a device lending library and provides refurbished computers to residents who are on a low income.

According to Stockport Council, these services were kept in place even as the local government aimed to save £26 million in its 2025/2026 budget. The goal of the project is to make sure that residents facing financial or social difficulties are not left behind as more services move online.
