The Stockport County Community Trust has started new weekly fitness and social sessions for people aged 65 and over in Stockport, Greater Manchester. The programme is designed to help older residents stay active and meet new people in their local area.

These free sessions are part of a three-year Health & Wellbeing Strategy that the trust is carrying out between November 2024 and October 2027. The charity wants to use the profile of Stockport County Football Club to help improve the physical and mental health of people across the region.

Residents can take part in gentle exercise and social activities that are held in a relaxed environment. The goal is to provide a friendly space that is different from a typical doctor’s office or clinical setting.

This project builds on earlier work by the trust, such as the 90 Minute Club and the Social Well-Being Group. These previous groups were set up to support people with long-term health conditions and to help those who might feel lonely.

The trust works closely with Stockport Council to deliver these services to the community. By working together, they hope to make it easier for seniors to find support and stay connected with their neighbours.
