Stockport County Football Club and developer Stonebond are seeking planning permission to build 126 affordable homes in Cheadle Hulme, Greater Manchester, to raise money for stadium improvements and community projects. The proposal involves building on land south of Grove Lane that is owned by the club owner, Mark Stott.

Money raised from the sale of the land will be put back into the football club to support the planned expansion of the historic Edgeley Park stadium. These funds will also provide ongoing support for the Stockport County Community Trust and its local programmes.

The development is planned to consist of 100 per cent affordable housing, specifically intended for local families and people buying their first home. The site was once meant to be a new training ground for the players, but it became available for housing after the club secured a different training base in Carrington.

Members of the Stockport County Supporters’ Co-operative board recently met at the stadium to receive a briefing on the project. During the visit, they learned how the housing development would help the club grow while also meeting local housing needs.

The plan is currently being reviewed by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council. As of 04 March 2026, the club is focusing on this project to ensure its long-term financial future in the community.
