A new pilates studio called Kontrol is set to open in Stockport later this year at the Weir Mill development. It will be the first studio in the town centre to offer both reformer and mat pilates sessions.
The studio, founded by Stockport native Vanessa Lees, will feature nine luxury beds for reformer pilates alongside a dedicated space for mat pilates and barre classes. The site will cater to a range of experience levels, offering beginner, intermediate, and one-to-one sessions.
Kontrol is the third independent business confirmed for the site, joining the Italian restaurant Social Osteria and Rita Ray’s, which is described as the north’s first women’s-led sports bar. These additions are part of the £60 million transformation of Weir Mill, a historic Grade II listed cotton works dating back to 1790. The project is being delivered by Capital&Centric in partnership with Stockport Council and the Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation.
The redevelopment of the mill, which involves creating 253 homes and various commercial spaces, is a key component of the wider £1 billion regeneration plan for the town. The scheme has been supported by a £7 million grant from the Homes England Housing Infrastructure Fund. Work at the historic site, which is situated near the town’s iconic viaduct, began in July 2022 with the firm Sisk serving as the main contractor.
