Regeneration specialist Cityheart has released the first internal images of its new coworking space located in the former Stockport Art College in Stockport, Greater Manchester. The facility, named Cheers & Smith, is expected to open in Autumn 2027 as part of a wider project to bring more homes and workspaces to the town centre.

The new workspace will be housed in a Grade II-listed Edwardian building on Greek Street that was originally built in 1906 as the Metropolitan Girls’ School. Once finished, it will offer flexible options for local workers, including hot desks and private studios, while keeping original features like parquet floors and large classrooms. The hub is named after architects Cheers & Smith, who designed the building.

This project is part of the 120 million pound Stopford Park development, which is also building 442 new homes and a public park. The announcement comes after Parliament approved a plan on 23 February 2026 to triple the size of the area covered by the Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC), which manages local building projects.

Earlier in March 2026, Lord Gavin Barwell was appointed as the new Chair to lead these regeneration efforts. The town centre’s transformation is currently valued at 1 billion pounds, with a target to build 8,000 new homes by 2040.
