Police officers and local officials seized more than £40,000 in cash and illegal tobacco during a raid on a shop in Brinnington, Stockport, in Greater Manchester on 16 March 2026. The operation on Penshurst Road was carried out by Greater Manchester Police alongside teams from Trading Standards and immigration services.

During the search, officers found between £35,000 and £40,000 in cash inside the business, along with a supply of illegal tobacco. Two men, aged 28 and 39, were arrested on suspicion of money laundering, while a third man was detained for suspected immigration offences.

A second search at a property in Cheetham Hill led to more cash being found, bringing the total amount taken by officers to over £40,000. This action was part of a specialist police task force known as Operation Vulcan, which has been active in the Brinnington area for one month.

According to Inspector Dan Cullum, the team is investigating different types of crime, including nuisance homes and anti-social behaviour hotspots. These raids are intended to stop illegal business activity and help residents feel more confident in their community.
