Residents in Stockport, Greater Manchester, are building essential online skills during the week of 9 March 2026 through a series of community learning sessions. These activities are led by the Starting Point Community Learning Partnership to help locals feel more confident using computers and the internet.
The sessions use a relaxed approach where residents can learn through conversation at social events like coffee meetups. This work is part of the DigiKnow alliance, a group established in 2018 to make sure everyone in the area can navigate the digital world.
Supported by The National Lottery Community Fund, the programme is currently working toward a goal of training 250 local volunteers to act as Digital Champions. These volunteers offer one-to-one and group support to help people access online services and stay connected with their community.
Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council continues to partner with these groups to promote digital training across the borough. These weekly sessions are designed to be accessible to any resident, regardless of their current experience with technology.
