The Stockport Pledge Partnership is calling on local shop and restaurant owners to take part in a series of school and college careers events across the borough throughout March and April 2026. This project aims to give young people practical work experience while helping businesses find future staff as the town undergoes a major billion-pound redevelopment.

Owners and managers can sign up for mock interview mornings at Priestnall High School on 6 March and Bramhall High School on 9 March to help students practice for the workplace. There is also an event at Aquinas College on 18 March 2026 focused on the different options available to students after they turn 18.

A special Your Futures Fair will be held on 30 April 2026 at Cheadle College, specifically for students with special educational needs (SEND) or those who are not currently in education, employment, or training. This event is designed to ensure that everyone has the chance to find a career path as the local economy grows.

The recruitment push comes at a time of high demand for staff at local companies such as Tesco and Premier Inn, following the recent expansion of the town centre regeneration area. According to Stockport Council, getting businesses involved now will help build a steady supply of local workers for the new shops and leisure spaces being built.

The partnership, which is delivered by the charity YouthFed, provides a way for cafes and retailers to meet potential apprentices and entry-level employees. Organisers say these events are essential to make sure the town’s growth provides real opportunities for all young residents.
