Stockport County booked their place in a major cup final at Wembley Stadium after a 1-0 win against Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday 3 March 2026. The victory in the semi-final match means the club from Stockport, Greater Manchester, will travel to London to compete for the trophy next month.

Midfielder Oliver Norwood scored the only goal of the game in the 11th minute with a free-kick from just outside the box. His low shot travelled through the line of defenders and into the bottom corner of the net to give his side the early lead.

A total of 5,418 fans attended the match at the Eco-Power Stadium to see the win. While the opposing team made nine changes to their usual starting group, the visiting side held firm to keep a clean sheet and ensure they progressed to the next stage.

The English Football League confirmed that the final is set to take place on Sunday 12 April 2026. Stockport will play against either Luton Town or Northampton Town, depending on the result of the other semi-final being played on Wednesday 4 March 2026.

This win marks the first time the club has reached this particular final since 1993. Supporters are now starting to make plans for the trip to the national stadium as the team looks to win the tournament for the first time.
