Sunderland BID has expanded its Lunar New Year programme at Sunniside Gardens in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, for Sunday 1 March 2026. The updated line-up adds The Hunters — a K‑pop tribute act (a tribute to the fictional ‘KPop Demon Hunters’) — as the family-friendly pop-culture element alongside traditional performances.

The free event runs from 11:00am to 3:00pm and includes lion and dragon dances, martial arts displays and a range of craft workshops (origami, calligraphy and paper-cutting activities among them), according to the Sunderland BID event page. Organisers say the additions are intended to make the day more appealing to younger people and families, while supporting local independent shops and food stalls in the Sunniside Quarter.

Roberta Redecke, Head of Business Services at Sunderland BID, said the celebration is now a firm fixture on the city’s calendar and that the programme aims to offer something for every age group by combining modern music acts with traditional dance and cultural displays.

Local business owners are supporting the event: Ian Wong, owner of Asiana, is acting as a consultant to help secure authentic entertainment and community involvement. Activities in the Sunniside area are part‑funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, organisers say.
