The Sunniside Food Market will become a regular monthly event in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, starting on Saturday 28 February 2026. Residents can visit the market at Sunniside Gardens between 10:00 and 16:00 on the fourth Saturday of every month to buy from local food and drink traders.
More than 20 independent businesses will set up stalls at the event, including bakers, brewers and cheesemongers. Visitors can find street food from traders such as Acropolis (Greek street food) and Raising Dough, alongside fresh produce and handmade crafts.
According to Sunderland City Council, the market is part of the wider “Sunniside Social” regeneration programme to grow the quarter as a destination for food and drink. The activity is supported by a £202,253 grant from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) awarded to Sunderland BID for the Sunniside Animation and Activation programme, which funds a range of events and interventions to help local businesses reach more customers.
The market is managed by Local Heroes NE in partnership with Sunderland BID and Sunderland City Council to bring more people to the city centre. The regular schedule follows recent investment in the area, including the Omniplex Sunderland’s reported £4 million refurbishment, and the arrival of new and expanding operators in Sunniside such as My Delhi and Midnight Pizza Crü.
