A new regular market for local food and drink will launch at Sheepfolds Stables in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, on 15 February 2026. The event is being run in partnership with We Are Local Heroes and will take place every second Sunday of the month from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
The market will occupy the open-air courtyard and internal event spaces of the restored, Grade II‑listed former North Eastern Railway stables, which were built in 1884. It aims to provide a reliable place for small businesses and makers to sell their goods directly to the public while creating a new weekend destination for residents.
According to Sunderland BID, the addition of the market will help boost visitor numbers to the riverside area on non‑match‑day Sundays. Building Design Northern (BDN), the architecture and engineering practice that led the site’s restoration, designed the venue to act as a community hub that celebrates regional produce.
Shoppers can expect a range of products from regional makers, including street food and artisan treats. The market formalises previous occasional pop-ups with a fixed monthly date to help shoppers and traders plan visits more easily.
