On Thursday 12 February 2026, bus services serving the Hylton Castle area of Sunderland will be diverted while Sunderland City Council carries out road repairs on Craigavon Road. Between 09:00 and 15:00, Go North East services 35, 36 and 99 will bypass their usual stops on Hylton Castle Road, Craigavon Road and Cranleigh Road.

Sunderland City Council says the works on Craigavon Road are to repair the road surface and improve safety, and form part of the council’s wider highway maintenance programme. Go North East has planned diversionary routing via Ringway, Ferryboat Lane and Caithness Road; passengers should use alternative stops on Ringway or Canterbury Road while the usual stops are closed.

The council and Go North East have scheduled the work for the inter‑peak period to minimise disruption to the morning and afternoon school and commuter peaks. Passengers are advised to allow extra time for journeys while diversions are in place; Go North East and the reporter brief project that affected journeys could take an additional 10–15 minutes. Residents can check stop-level information and timetables on BusTimes (bustimes.org) and should monitor Go North East’s service updates and social feeds for any last‑minute changes or overrun notices.
