Sunderland AFC and the Foundation of Light announced on 26 February 2026 that their dedicated charity matchday will return for the upcoming home game against Brighton and Hove Albion in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear. The event gives fans a chance to support local community programmes and learn more about the charity’s work with children and families across the region.

This year’s event marks the 25th anniversary of the charity and is part of the Premier League national campaign to highlight the positive impact football clubs have on their local areas. To celebrate the occasion, local landmarks such as the Penshaw Monument and the Northern Spire bridge will be lit up in red and white on the Friday evening before the game.

Fans can visit the Beacon of Light Fan Zone from 11:30 am on matchday to take part in football clinics and interactive activities supported by Around The World Tree and Landscaping Specialists. Fundraising efforts include a lottery with a £1,000 top prize and a mascot prize draw, with all proceeds helping the charity tackle issues like child poverty and unemployment.

The money raised will support the recently launched Brighter Tomorrow strategy, which provides educational support and health initiatives for young people across the North East. Those who want to help can also donate £5 by texting FOLFIVE to 70085 to support the foundation’s work with the one in three children currently living in poverty in the city.
