St Benedict’s Hospice has launched its annual Go Yellow Day, calling on residents across Sunderland to don bright clothing and raise money on Friday, 17 July. The St Benedict’s Hospice event page invites community groups, businesses, and individuals to take part in a day of fundraising from 08:00 to 17:00, with every pound collected going directly towards free palliative care.

Organisers are encouraging participants to be as imaginative as they like, offering an A-Z of fundraising ideas to spark inspiration. The chosen date coincides with the final day of term for local schools. Those unable to take part on 17 July can stage a workplace Go Yellow day at any point during the year.

The campaign forms part of a packed summer fundraising programme that also includes a Summer Fair on 11 July, an Inflatable 5K in August and the BIG Walk in September. Community fundraisers Megan and Julie are coordinating the efforts, which remain essential because the hospice receives only partial NHS funding and must rely heavily on donations to sustain its services.

St Benedict’s has provided specialist care at no cost to patients since 1984, operating from its base on St Benedict’s Way in Ryhope. Anyone wanting to register a school, business or community group for Go Yellow Day can email [email protected] or complete the registration form on the event website.
