Residents in Sunderland experienced significant temperature shifts this past weekend as high pressure brought a mix of mist, rain, and sunny intervals to the region.

According to the Met Office, Saturday 25 April began with light rain and mist and temperatures between 4.9°C and 6°C. Conditions improved by the afternoon, clearing to sunny intervals with temperatures reaching approximately 11.7°C. The evening saw temperatures drop to 4.5°C under overcast skies.

Sunday 26 April started in a similarly cool fashion, with morning temperatures ranging from 3.3°C to 6.2°C alongside mist and partial cloud cover. Conditions warmed to between 15°C and 16°C by the late afternoon, despite some light rain earlier in the day. Throughout the weekend, coastal areas like Sunderland remained noticeably cooler than inland regions due to onshore northerly breezes coming off the North Sea.

Humidity levels across the weekend remained high, fluctuating between 66% and 98% depending on the presence of morning mist or afternoon sunshine.

The unsettled weather has continued into the start of the week, with misty conditions recorded on the morning of Monday 27 April. Temperatures in the area rose from approximately 6°C to 10°C by 9am.
