The Met Office is forecasting very cold, wet and windy conditions for Swadlincote, Derbyshire, on Thursday 5 February 2026. Although air temperatures are expected to be around 4°C, Met Office ‘feels like’ values are forecast to fall to around −2°C at times because of wind chill and persistent rain.

Forecasters say gusts could reach about 33 mph at times during the day. The combination of wind and wet weather will increase the likelihood of cold-related discomfort and faster heat loss for people working outdoors, schoolchildren and older residents; forecasters advise dressing for the lower ‘feels like’ temperatures.

Drivers on exposed routes such as the A511 should take extra care — high winds and rain can make driving more difficult, and high‑sided vehicles are particularly vulnerable. Check Derbyshire County Council and local traffic updates for any travel alerts or road closures before setting out.

There is no public indication of planned school closures in South Derbyshire for 5 February; schools such as The Pingle Academy commonly remain open in wet/windy weather but may restrict outdoor lessons or activities. Parents should monitor school communications and local authority channels for any official notices.

South Derbyshire District Council says it will provide updates on local services during adverse weather; residents should follow Met Office advice and consider securing loose garden items where appropriate. Forecasters stress that wind chill (the ‘feels like’ temperature) is the key headline for this event — dress and plan journeys accordingly.
