South Derbyshire District Council launched its new Let’s Get Sorting campaign on January 30, 2026, to help families in Swadlincote and across the district manage household recycling. The project aims to clear up confusion about which items go in which bins following several recent changes to local waste services.
Weekly kerbside collections of Podback coffee pods in South Derbyshire will end in February 2026. The council says the final kerbside collection week is w/c 2 February 2026. Residents can still recycle pods by taking them to Podback drop-off points, including the Swadlincote Household Waste Recycling Centre.
The council also confirmed that green bin inner caddies are delayed until the beginning of February 2026 because of a supplier issue. Until those containers arrive, households are asked to place paper and cardboard into an open plastic box next to their recycling bin to keep materials separate.
These updates are part of a wider preparation for mandatory weekly food waste collections targeted for mid-2026. The council expects food scraps to be moved into separate kerbside food waste caddies (around 20–23 litres), and local reporting indicates kitchen-top caddies may be offered to residents at about £3 each (including delivery).
