Swadlincote Bus Station and its adjacent car park in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, were temporarily closed from Tuesday 6 January 2026 to allow major upgrades to the site. South Derbyshire District Council said the car park closure is expected to last about 12 weeks, while the bus station work is expected to take around 14 weeks.

Derbyshire County Council and South Derbyshire District Council said the works will reconfigure the layout so the bus and coach area is separate from the car park, improving pedestrian access to the town centre. New shelters and real‑time digital information screens will be installed, and the site will be resurfaced with new lighting and signage. The council also says the car park bays will be re‑marked to provide better spacing; local reporting notes some spaces will be widened (an increase of about 25cm, from 2.25m to 2.5m), and that wheelchair‑accessible bays will be relocated with a Parent and Child bay added.

Because Swadlincote does not have a rail station, the bus station serves as the town’s main hub for regional connections to places such as Derby, Burton and Leicester. During the works, services have been relocated to temporary stops on Civic Way: the council’s notice says there are two temporary stops sited between the bus station and the Civic Offices — one opposite the Health Centre and the other opposite the Police Station.

Passengers using Arriva and Diamond Bus services should follow signage to the Civic Way temporary stops and consult operator service updates for departure information. The councils estimate the station work will be completed and the main site reopen around mid‑April 2026.
