The Derbyshire Carers Association (DCA) is running a series of free wellbeing workshops and roadshow events across Swadlincote, Derbyshire, to support unpaid carers during the winter months. The programme begins in late January 2026 (with local sessions starting 29 January) and is designed for residents who look after family members or friends because of illness, disability or frailty. The charity aims to reach “hidden” carers — people providing vital support who may not realise they are eligible for help or local services.

Local sessions will be held at community spaces such as Swadlincote Fire Station (Civic Way) and other local hubs, and the DCA cites venues such as Sharpe’s Pottery Museum as examples of community locations used for carer activities. These roadshows give carers the chance to meet others in similar situations and learn about practical support, including managing their own mental health and planning for the future.

The events also act as an on‑ramp to the national Carers Week campaign (8–14 June 2026), helping carers connect with services and peer networks ahead of the national awareness week.

The initiative responds to the heavy workload many unpaid carers face and the risk of burnout and health problems if carers do not get a break. The DCA is the lead partner for the Derbyshire All Age Carers Support Service (DAACSS), delivering carer assessments and administering carer personal budgets on behalf of Derbyshire County Council. By holding meetings in community hubs rather than clinical settings, organisers hope to make it easier for people to get help in a relaxed, accessible environment.

Residents who wish to attend can see the full schedule on the Derbyshire Carers Association ‘What’s On’ calendar or via the Joined Up Care Derbyshire carers portal, or book by calling the DCA helpline on 01773 833833. In addition to face‑to‑face meetings in Swadlincote there are online workshops available for those who cannot leave the person they care for. Sessions are open to adult carers and young carers across the county.
