The Environment Agency has issued eight active flood alerts for Swindon, Wiltshire, and surrounding areas as of 13 March 2026. These alerts mean that flooding is possible in low-lying areas following a period of heavy rain.

The areas specifically affected include the River Cole, Dorcan Brook, South Marston Brook, and the Upper Bristol Avon. Several of these alerts were updated on 12 March 2026 as water levels in the local brooks and rivers began to rise.

Local weather data shows that the region has experienced an unusually wet start to the year. Total rainfall has reached 216 millimetres, which is 184 per cent of the long-term average for this period.

Swindon Borough Council acts as the lead authority for managing local flood risks in the community. Residents living near riverbanks are advised to remain vigilant, and road users should be careful of standing water in valleys and areas close to the water.
