Swindon Borough Council cabinet members met on 4 March 2026 to review a new long-term plan to protect and improve five major country parks across Swindon, Wiltshire. The proposal aims to guide how these popular green spaces are managed and funded over the coming years to benefit local residents and visitors.

The plan covers Lydiard Park, Coate Water, Mouldon Hill, Stanton Park, and Barbury Castle, following a large public consultation held in the summer of 2025. More than 2,000 people provided feedback during that time, highlighting the most important changes they wanted to see in their local parks.

According to Swindon Borough Council, the new roadmap prioritises practical improvements such as upgrading parking payment machines and resurfacing car parks. Resident feedback also led to goals for better signs and refurbished toilet facilities at each of the five locations.

Councillor Marina Strinkovsky, the cabinet member for planning and placemaking, led the initiative which also focuses on nature recovery and health. The document will be used to help the council apply for future funding and create more opportunities for volunteers to help look after the parks.
