Two teenagers were arrested in the early hours of Friday, 10 April 2026, following a dangerous police pursuit that travelled through several streets in Swindon.

The incident began at approximately 1:00 am when officers attempted to stop a Ford Fiesta on Marlborough Road. The driver failed to stop and instead accelerated away, leading police on a chase through the town. During the pursuit, officers observed suspected packages of drugs being thrown from the car window while the vehicle travelled along Windsor Drive. The car was later seen hitting a roundabout and driving on the wrong side of the dual carriageway near the Greenbridge area.

The pursuit concluded on Oxford Road, where police used tactical contact to bring the vehicle to a stop. This manoeuvre resulted in significant damage to a police armed response vehicle, a new Volvo XC90. Wiltshire Police reported that no members of the public were injured during the operation.

Following the stop, an 18-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and being concerned in the supply of class A and B drugs. A 16-year-old male was also arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and possession of an offensive weapon. Both remain in custody.

Chief Inspector Carly Nesbitt commended the efforts of the roads policing unit, firearms officers, response teams, crime and communications centre and the intelligence unit for bringing the pursuit to a safe conclusion. The force’s Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon has recently supported an increase in roads policing capacity to assist with such enforcement activities. The Wiltshire Police Volume Crime Team is now conducting further enquiries.
