Hundreds of people in Hadley, Shropshire, have signed a petition calling for safety improvements on a local alleyway that was first flagged as dangerous in 2022. The petition, which has 455 signatures, urges Telford & Wrekin Council to revisit its previous assessment of the path and take steps to protect the community.
This call for action follows a serious incident on 5 February 2026, when a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by two men in balaclavas while walking between Manse Road and Gladstone Street. West Mercia Police are currently investigating the attack, which took place in the middle of the day between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm.
The council is currently investing £6 million pounds into its Building Safer & Stronger Communities programme to tackle crime across the borough. Official figures show that areas involved in this project have seen a 28 per cent drop in anti-social behaviour and an 11 per cent fall in recorded crime over the past 12 months.
Other safety measures are being introduced in the area, including new zebra crossings and raised speed tables on Hadley Park Road that began in January 2026. Members of the Hadley & Leegomery Parish Council continue to work with the borough to address these neighbourhood safety concerns.
