The Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson, visited the new Telford College sixth-form centre in Telford, Shropshire, on 12 March 2026 to see the progress of the upcoming facility. The visit was designed to highlight how the new building will help local young people gain better skills and training.

The new “Telford 6th” building at the Station Quarter was organised by the local MP, Shaun Davies, and is set to open to students in September 2026. It will serve as a central location for local students to continue their studies after they finish their GCSEs.

During the tour, the Education Secretary met with Lawrence Wood, the Principal of the college, to discuss how national funding and support can help local communities. They looked at the different ways the college can provide more opportunities for teenagers through new technology and innovation.

The visit ended with a group discussion about the future of the local workforce and the role of new digital tools in education. This development is part of a larger effort to modernise schools and colleges across the region to make sure students have the right space to learn.
