Telford & Wrekin Council has sent out three extra repair teams this week to fix road damage across Telford, Shropshire. The move comes after severe winter weather and freezing temperatures caused a sudden increase in potholes on residential streets and main roads.

Council officials say the damage was mainly caused by freeze-thaw cycles and the impact of Storm Goretti in January 2026. The extra teams are part of a larger plan to spend more than £90 million over the next four years to maintain and improve the borough’s highways.

The crews are using a new material called Roadmender Elastomac, which is a rubberised coating made from recycled tyres. Because this material sets in just a few minutes, roads can be opened to traffic much faster than with traditional repair methods.

Residents are being asked to report any dangerous potholes using the MyTelford app or through the council website. The council aims to inspect all reports and repair any hazardous defects within one working day.
