The Met Office has issued a yellow ice warning for Telford, Shropshire, as temperatures are expected to drop below freezing overnight. The alert begins at 5:00 PM today, Friday, February 13, 2026, and will remain in place until 10:00 AM tomorrow morning.

Forecasters say a band of rain and sleet will move out of the area this evening, leaving roads and pavements damp. As skies clear, surfaces that have not been treated are likely to freeze, creating slippery conditions for drivers and people walking.

Telford & Wrekin Council will be gritting approximately 444km of the local road network to help keep traffic moving. This work focuses on major routes and bus lanes, but residents are warned that side streets may still be icy.

The icy weather arrives as the town prepares for a major event at the Telford International Centre. The JAMfest Europe cheer and dance competition is set to start on Saturday morning, drawing thousands of visitors to the town.

People travelling this evening or tomorrow morning are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys and to take care on untreated footpaths. The Met Office warns that there is a risk of minor travel delays across the region.
