A new project called Activity for All is launching in Telford, Shropshire, to help adults with learning disabilities get active through 12 different sports and fitness sessions. The programme is specifically designed for local people aged 18 and over who are living with a learning disability.
The activities, which begin on 1 April 2026, include swimming, boxing, yoga, gymnastics, and cycling. The sessions are delivered by the Special Needs Activity Centre in partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council.
Funding for the initiative was provided by the Sport England Movement Fund. Organisers at Hollinswood & Randlay Parish Council set up the project after community research identified that adults with learning difficulties often faced a gap in available exercise opportunities.
Other options for participants include footgolf, basketball, bowling, dancing, and archery, as well as seated fitness and dry slope tubing. Statistics show that 20.5 per cent of residents in the area identify as disabled, and these individuals are twice as likely to be physically inactive.
Bookings for the various activities opened on 16 March 2026. Those interested in taking part can secure a spot by calling 01952 567960 or by emailing [email protected].
