Three outdoor productions will take over the restored Telford Town Park Amphitheatre at the start of August, bringing a mix of classic tales and stand-up comedy to families. The Telford Theatre season opens on Saturday 1 August with The Gingerbread Man at 11am, followed by Robin Hood Rescues The Forest at 2:30pm the same day. Comedy Club 4 Kids rounds off the weekend on Sunday 2 August at 2pm.

The Gingerbread Man runs for about 60 minutes without an interval and is aimed at children aged two to seven. Robin Hood Rescues The Forest lasts roughly 75 minutes, including a 15-minute break, and suits five- to twelve-year-olds. Comedy Club 4 Kids delivers age-appropriate stand-up for audiences aged six and over across a single 60-minute set. Tickets for each show cost £10 for adults, £6 for children—rising to £8 for the comedy event—and a family of four can book for £30. Doors open 45 minutes before curtain-up.

The outdoor programme began earlier in the summer with The Wind in the Willows on 23 July, presented by Paperback Theatre. That afternoon included a free sock puppet workshop from midday for ticket holders, with spaces offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The amphitheatre, tucked beside Randlay Pool off Silkin Way, spent decades fenced off and silent until residents pitched its revival to Council Leader Lee Carter in 2024. The restoration forms part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s first Culture Strategy and the Telford Theatre on Tour programme, which brings performances to local parks while the main theatre in Oakengates undergoes redevelopment.

Aesop’s Touring Theatre Company, which stages The Gingerbread Man and Robin Hood Rescues The Forest, specialises in Theatre in Education and tours productions linked to the National Curriculum. Paperback Theatre began creating outdoor family shows during a socially-distanced festival in 2020 and has since developed modern adaptations of well-loved stories. Comedy Club 4 Kids started in 2005 with a single London residency and now runs events across the country.
