Telford & Wrekin Council has submitted updated plans for where thousands of new homes will be built across the borough in Shropshire.

The local authority lodged a revised set of housing changes (document HD03) on 3 March 2026 as part of an ongoing review of its future development goals. These updates focus on how three large ‘Sustainable Communities’ will be built and what infrastructure, such as roads and schools, must be provided before construction can begin.

The plan targets three main areas to the north of the town in Bratton, Muxton, and Wheat Leasowes, which are expected to provide about 8,000 homes by 2040. This includes 3,100 new dwellings at Wheat Leasowes near Wappenshall, 2,700 in Muxton, and 2,100 in Bratton.

Independent inspectors began a hearing session on 4 March 2026 to evaluate the borough’s housing strategy. While the afternoon is set to discuss specific development policies, the morning session focused on the current five-year supply of land for housing and whether the council has enough space to meet the community’s needs in the immediate future.

The council has also reached several agreements with landowners and developers, known as Statements of Common Ground, to help move the projects forward. These sites are a major part of the borough’s growth strategy, though some builders and groups like the Home Builders Federation have suggested that even more housing may be required to meet demand.
