Mark Hirons, a 38-year-old man from Lydbury North, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on February 9, 2026, after being convicted of several violent crimes in Telford, Shropshire. The charges included rape, assault, and intentional strangulation following an investigation that began in May 2025.

According to West Mercia Police, the case went to trial in November 2025 where Hirons was found guilty of all offences. The sentencing took place at Shrewsbury Crown Court, where a judge also issued a restraining order to provide the victim with ongoing protection.

Detective Constable Darren Wincott, who led the investigation, described Hirons as a dangerous individual who preys on women. He praised the bravery of the victim for coming forward and helping to remove a serious offender from the community.

The 15-year sentence follows a push by local authorities to prioritise cases involving vulnerable victims. The court heard that the incident was first reported to the police nearly a year ago, leading to the successful prosecution and lengthy jail term.
